Today I was speaking with a close friend of mine about our jobs. I stated that I didn't want to be the norm, I didn't want the corporate position, with all of the stress, cell phone attached to me 7 days a week, checking email constantly, etc. I simply wanted to work. Do something I'm passionate about. Not have the Normal Career that society believes that you must have in this day and age. I just want to be HAPPY, I dont need the "job title" for that happiness to be achieved.

And then I came across this. It's beautiful. Struck a nerve with in me. So, I'm sharing :).

"I know that life is busy and hard, and that there’s a crushing pressure to just settle down and get a real job and khaki pants and a haircut. But don’t. Please don’t. Please keep believing that life can be better, brighter, broader, because of the art that you make. Please keep demonstrating the courage that it takes to swim upstream in a world that prefers putting away for retirement to putting pen to paper, that chooses practicality over poetry, that values you more for going to the gym than going to the deepest places in your soul. Please keep making art for people like me, people who need the magic and imagination and honesty of great art to make the day-to-day world a little more bearable. And if, for whatever reason, you’ve stopped– stopped believing in your voice, stopped fighting to find the time–start today. - Shauna Niequist, Cold Tangerines

Fill In The Blank Friday

1.   Nothing says fall like  pumpkin spice latte’s, smell of cinnamon, crackling fires, and the beautiful changing colors of the leaves.

2.   My favorite autumnal tradition is  carving pumpkins! I love this, however this year there has been no pumpkin carving. Sad :(.

3.  My favorite fall treat is  pumpkin spice latte’s from Starbucks. Yes, I’m addicted.

4. Fall makes me think of  closeness  because  it’s when I get to spend the most time with Jon. During the spring & Summer Jon is so busy with his side jobs that he’s gone daylight to way past dark. In the Fall/Winter time we have lots more time together at home, and it’s lovely.

5.  Autumn free form word association, go!  Beautiful leaves, crisp air, bon fires, pumpkin, & football!

6.  My go-to outfit in the fall is   jeans, cozy sweaters, or hoodies! I’m simple :)

7.  My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving)  I love Thanksgiving. It’s when we get to spend time with our family, relax, and of course eat lots of wonderful food!

Do you have any fun weekend plans? I'm off to the beach for a week with my love! So excited! Have a Happy Friday!

Acres of Land Winery

After the great pottery adventure we were all famished and decided to have a late lunch at our local winery! We all ordered wine samples, they had a special for the day 6 tastings for $1.95. Score!

My Wine tasting samples! I love the holder!

My salad made with all locally grown produce and Chardonnay Ranch Dressing. So delicious!

The best quesadilla I have EVER had, made with Fresh Homemade Salsa.

My Nana was all about the wine tastings, she even asked my mom at one point if she had "killed" it yet. The wine sample, that was. My mom answered with no. Nana said, well why not? As she chugged it back. Only my 86 year old grandmother! Oh, the memories :)

Hope you had a great weekend!

Tater Knob Pottery

This past Saturday my mom, Nana, my friend Londi, & I went on an adventure! It was a beautiful day with the sun shining brightly, blue skies and lovely temperatures! What more can you ask for in October?

We went to a place called Tater Knob Pottery. I'm a HUGE Fan of pottery and this was one that was located not far from where I live, but unfortunately I hadn't been able to visit yet. We drove down a one lane road before finding this hidden gem! Upon arriving the owner greeted us, and asked us if we wanted a beverage and then led us out to the back patio to sit and relax before we began shopping. These are some of the views from our seats. Absolutely gorgeous.

She served us with Organic French Roast Coffee with cream & honey. Chocolate Raspberry Bread, peanuts, and peanut butter filled pretzels. And isn't that plate gorgeous?

 My Nana taking a sip.

The owner demonstrating how she makes the decorative edges on a pie plate.

Of course I couldn't come home empty handed, I bought a hurricane oil lamp that I can't wait to light for those winter evenings. And will be useful if we ever lose power.
What a perfect way to start the day!

Fill In The Blank Friday

1.   The most selfless thing I've ever done was  there really isn’t one particular moment that stands out to me. I always try to look out for others and put their needs for mine, if they are in a time of need. I do go mentor pediatric cancer patients that have been newly diagnosed to let them know that everything will be okay, in one way or another. Sometimes it helps for these kids to see someone that survived and made it through, such as I.

2.   When it comes to working out  it’s a love/hate relationship. I am not one of those gal’s that enjoys going to the gym. However, after I go I feel a million times better and feel as I could conquer the world. I try to go about 3 times a week.

3.  A woman should always  be herself. Simple as that. Society these days attempt to conform women to the “social media” standard. Unique, is what’s beautiful.

4. I wish I could  learn how to take more time for myself  and then I'd relax a lot more.  (Working on this)

5.  A best friend is  someone that is there for you through thick and thin.

6.  I can't get enough of   Starbucks pumpkin Spice Latte’s. I’m obsessed!

7.  This weekend I am going to a pottery place to tour and then to a winery for lunch with my Mom, Nana, and best friend. Should be lots of fun!

I'm obsessed with Pinterest, let me just announce that to the world.

I cooked this for dinner last night, well minus the broccoli. It was delish! Next time, maybe a bit less garlic, but over all very tasty!

I also made this, the verdict is still out. And to be determined. I used Triple Cheddar and Pepper Jack cheese. I seemed to taste the Nutmeg, a little to sweet for me. The first few bites I thought were amazing, but the more bites the more I wasn't so sure. I think I will give it one more try, and not throw the nutmeg in there and see if that makes a difference. We'll see!

Have you been cooking anything great lately?
