Weekend Update

Wow, it’s already Wednesday! A part of me thinks this week has flown by, although another part thinks it’s crawling. Weird, isn’t it?

Friday - I stayed home from work due to the winter weather, so I enjoyed a quiet day at home. J came home from work and didn’t feel good, and I was antsy. So, I took a trip to Pet Smart and Hobby Lobby, and then came back home. I fixed us a glorious dinner of Hot Dogs & Mac n’ Cheese - J’s favorite! Hehe.

Saturday - I went into work for a couple hours and J came with me! He has never been to my workplace before, so now he knows! After i was finished working, we spent the day together! It was wonderful! We went to a flea market (it was seriously REDNECK). J was in heaven. I wanted out of there FAST. They had OLD men sitting at the doors as “security guards” while they stuffed their faces with a bowl of chili. There was crap piled all on the front walls of the building outside, a typical flea market place. J said, you don’t like this place do you? I said, it’s just not my type of place. Ha! Then we went off to a Peddler’s Mall that was SERIOUSLY huge! Holy cow! J was whipping through the aisles like a mad man, and I was just slowly browsing. I decided that I’ll go back without him, as he’s not the browsing type. Hehe. We then went and grabbed lunch at a Sports Bar (Galvin's). It was very yummy! We also stopped at a book store, then rented a couple movies and went home and had a movie night. It was the perfect day!

Sunday - J went to visit his grandpa with his mom. I went to the grocery store (joy, joy) and then came home and lounged around. I did a few things around the house. I also made Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup for the first time! It was absolutely delicious! It was my plan to eat on it during the week for lunches, but J devoured it! Ha! I was able to get two meals out of it, and he ate the rest! He loved it! I love when he likes my cooking!

All in all, a pretty great weekend!

Dear Love

Dear Love,

It’s been a while since I’ve wrote you one of these.
I love how last night you let me watch two hours of “The Bachelor” while you found other things to occupy your time. I even caught you glancing once or twice at the TV screen!
I love our trade off of movie nights with each other. You let me watch one of my Chick Flicks or Independent Films (that you know I love) and I let you watch a shoot em’, blow em’ up, scary movie! I think that’s a great trade off!
Your love of my first attempt at Homemade chicken Noodle soup was awesome the other night. I love when you enjoy my cooking! *Fist Pump*

Tonight, you can watch your shows since i hogged the TV all night last night! :).

Love,
Ashley

Today, January 24th is National Compliment Day!

Isn't it amazing how saying one simple little phrase to someone can brighten their day? I know personally I love receiving compliments. It always puts a smile on my face to know that someone is thinking about me. Giving them out is just as wonderful!

So will you join me in giving out compliments today? Who knows you may change someone's day just by saying a few little words.

How wonderful would that be? To know that you've brightened someone's day!

All of you that read my blog are simply wonderful! You brighten my every day with your comments and words of joy! :).

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Make this now! It's delicious and so incredibly easy!

4 ½ cups chicken broth
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup sliced carrot
1 cup sliced celery
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
1 ½ cups dried medium noodles
3 cups cooked chicken – I use pulled chicken

In a large saucepan, combine onion, carrot and celery, chicken broth and spices. Bring to the boil, add cooked chicken, bring to boil. Add noodles, allow to simmer until noodles cooked!

It's amazingly delicious! Not to mention, healthy :).

Enjoy

Goofy Poofy

What were we smoking last night!? We were total goofballs, and I loved every single second of it!

  • Showing me the trick Little Kitty does if you feed her tuna
  • Me attempting to play “Air Banjo” with all the sound effects! Yes, it was classic!
  • Tickle wars
  • Wrestling wars
  • You taking a “Heartburn” pill that you accidentally chewed up. All the while making some Alien Faces at the disgusting after taste it left in your mouth.
  • Then you took a swig of Soda and your mouth foamed up, ha! You had chipmunk cheeks!
  • Sucking all the juice off the Dill Pickle
  • Rocking out in bed. I - headbanging to my iPod. You - said you were getting motion sickness from your book bouncing around. Lights off. Damn it!
  • Cuddle up and fall asleep!

Perfect night!

Head Banging

I woke up this morning to J asking me if I was going to work today. If so, I needed to get my ass in gear and get going! I then get a text from my boss telling me to stay put, as every school in this state has been called off. I look outside, and there’s nothing. She said she would go ahead and head in, as she only lives 10 minutes away from work, and I live 45. Ick! Well sure enough, I get another text at 8:30 saying, stay home. It’s pouring the snow and a complete mess, she said!

Rock on! I ate a bowl of cereal, watched some of the Today Show, snuggled with my cat and passed back out! It’s funny I always have been one that is NOT a morning person, whatsoever. If I have time to do my own thing and get going, I’m okay. But if I’m rushed and have to be somewhere at a particular time, forget it. This morning was so peaceful. The house was quiet and dark. I Hate lights. J doesn’t understand this. I love sitting in the dark. LOVE it. He turns every light on in the house, it’s lit up like Fort Knox. It drives me batty! Anywho, that’s beside the point. I was able to “nap” for a couple hours which was lovely! Although, I’m sure that I will have trouble getting to sleep tonight.

I have had my cup of coffee. Put away the laundry. Put the dishes up. Set out what we are having for dinner tonight. And straightened up the house. Now I’m taking the rest of the day for ME! The snow has just started here, big fat snowflakes! However, it’s not really sticking or making anything a disaster, yet. They are calling for up to 5 inches by morning. Anyone that knows anyone in the south, knows that 5 inches will paralyze us! Ha! I know you northerners are laughing!

Last night J was a grouchy ass, so he hibernated in the man cave. I spent a couple hours jamming to tunes on my iPod and painting.

P.S. Don’t try and head bang to the music while painting. It makes your paintbrush go crazy! Haha!

Waking Up

I woke up this morning to about 4 inches of snow blanketing the ground. It's beautiful. However, it dampens my plans of going out today and running errands. Yes, I am the one that REFUSES to drive in snow! Not doing it! Now here I am drinking coffee, doing a load of laundry, and staring at the kitchen which needs to be swept and mopped. It never ends! Oh yes, and the Christmas tree needs to FINALLY come down too.

It was weird falling asleep without J here last night, knowing that he won't be back till Sunday. A strange feeling, and one that makes me appreciate him that much more when he is here. I missed his warmth lying next to me. How he roots around and steals the covers and jacks my pillows, as he just simply is trying to get closer to me. He will be here soon enough, it's just weird not having him here.

He took my camera with him on his camping trip, so no going out and taking pictures of the snow! I hope he took some beautiful ones up in the mountains and woods. I wonder how that's going? Apparently it came a "small blizzard" aka: Kentucky Style where they are camping at, so it shall be interesting to hear the stories. J was going to practice the "Falling in creek" method today, and attempting to start a fire to get warm before you froze. He was just going to roll around in the snow, with nothing on but his boxers, but yikes! That just chills me to the bone even thinking about it.

Last night I ate dinner, chatted with J's niece on Facebook for about an hour, took a 45 minute bubble bath (pure bliss), gave myself a facial, and fell asleep in bed reading with my two cats snuggled up with me.

All in all, a pretty peaceful night.

Now, I better get this show on the road...

Dear Love - Camping

I adored you last night walking around with your rugged backpack attached to you.
You’d walk downstairs after each time you added something new!
A tarp, a hatchet, and a knife – you’re brave!
Not to mention wickedly sexy.
I can’t wait to hear your awesome stories!
Remember every detail, as I don’t’ want to miss a thing!
Love you!

J is going camping this weekend. Real Camping. No sleeping bags. No food. No shelter. They are building their own shelter out of sticks, leaves, etc. Killing their own food and cooking it over an open fire.

The weather is supposed to be in the single digits and snow. He couldn't be more excited!
And, I can't wait to hear all about it!

Day Dream

Do you ever have those mornings when you awake, and you find yourself reflecting back on all that has happened? I find myself sitting at work this morning, wishing I was somewhere peaceful. Quiet. I’d love to sit by the water, the lake that’s not far from my house.

Sitting by the water, watching the fish come up and nibble on the insects that may be floating unknowingly by. I would need warm clothes, oh and a pretty scarf. I want a cup of warmth in between my hands, and a pen and paper lying in my lap. No one else is around as the frigid air has kept them away, it’s just me and the beauty that surrounds my thoughts. Thoughts - oh yes, I need to write them down but where do I start? I have so many pouring through my mind, I’m not sure where to start. How do you sort them out, or even fathom to begin? I’ll just start writing, until my mind is at a more normal pace.

The wind is ruffling the water, I watch it ripple into the shore line. The sun is bright this morning, smiling down on all that is beautiful in this life. I should really appreciate the happiness that surrounds me more often. The simple peace of this moment, is more than words can even describe.

*Just a day dream while sitting at work*
